State of California i aportm*nt of Health Saks
Memorandum
[NVIRO!"++ENTAL- HEALTH
L-ERPJI►/SERVICES
To Jeff Van Slooten Date July 1, 1988
Associate Hazardous Material Specialist
Subject: MCCORMICK AND
BAXTER COMMUNIT•:
RELATIONS PLAN
JV5r
From Leticia M. Rico
Community Relations Coordinator
I have completed my review of the McCormick and Baxter Community
Relations Plan included in the April 1988 workplan. My comments
are as follows :
Page D-8
The third paragraph states that there has been very little
community interest expressed about the site. This paragraph
should be deleted or reworded because it is misleading and
contradictory to the succeeding paragraphs which document
people' s interest and concerns about the site. More accurately,
people have been unaware that a hazardous waste site exists at
McCormick and Baxter , but they are concerned and many have asked
to be kept informed, put on the mailing list and expressed
interest in future neighborhood meetings to educate the
community.
Page D-8 and 11
The last sentence states that the school is not an integral part
of the local community since the students are bused from
elsewhere in the Stockton area. This sentence should be deleted
because the students and faculty are an integral part of the
community as they spend their entire days at the school and could
be at risk if any contamination impacted the school property.
Page D-19
In the first paragraph, the third sentence states that McCormick
and Baxter will have primary responsibility for implementation
for all activities except where noted below. As a responsible
party, McCormick and Baxter is responsible for . the development
and implementation of the Community Relations Plan with DHS
oversight and approval. Please modify this sentence accordingly.
Under Activity #1 : Contact person, identify Jeff Van Slooten as
the DHS contact person.
Information Repositories should be established at both locations
to facilitate community access.
Under the information repository section, please add the
following items:
