Jim Tjosvold
Page 6
July 3 , 1987
28 . The last two sampling intervals for the new Mormon Slough
should be extended to 200 feet.
29 . Descriptions of sample preparation and extraction methods
for sediment samples must be provided. The percent
moisture content must be measured and reported.
30. Information on the extent of contamination near soil
boring SB-21 has not been provided to the Department.
Unless a full description (origin, horizontal, and
vertical extent) can be provided, further sampling in
this area will be required.
31. McCormick and Baxter has not included any description or
investigation of the underground railroad tanker in
Task 10. This tank was used for storage of creosote and
if the tank has leaked in the past, remaining soil
contamination may serve as a source of groundwater
contamination. McCormick and Baxter must provide a plan
for soil sampling below the tank as part of the site soil
characterization.
32 . The name of the laboratory for dioxin analysis has not
been submitted. This laboratory must be approved by the
State of California for dioxin analysis.
33 . Dioxin analysis by EPA method 8280 is strictly for 2 , 3 ,
7, 8 tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin. Analysis for 2 , 3 , 7 ,
8 substituted isomers and homologs must be provided under
the direction of the State Hazardous Material Laboratory
(HML) . Prior to sampling, CH2M Hill and their contract
laboratory must contact HML at (415) 540-3003 for proper
procedures and method analysis.
PHERA
34 . In addition to modeling the transport and fate analysis
for chemicals, there should be analytical testing to
support the hypothesis.
SRWCF Treatability Assessment
35 . Samples from the storm water ponds should include
effluent as well as the influent. In addition to
monitoring levels being discharged to the SRWCF, the
results will resolve previous discussions regarding
degradation of PCP in the ponds.
36 . If discharged storm water from the ponds is to be
analyzed for dioxin, samples should be collected when
sediment transport (turbidity) is maximum.
37 . The concentrations of contaminants in the sediment and
water phases of the influent and effluent to the storm
