Item Paragraph Response
We have consistently stated that the
present method of using submersible
pumps to draw samples for VOC
analysis is as good, and probably
better, than other sampling methods.
Task 11 1 We feel the work plan program is a
Dioxin good first step in determining if
Evaluation dioxins are present at significant
levels to be of concern. The scope
and purpose of DHS concerns are not
clear. We agree to discuss this
issue at the upcoming meeting.
Revised Time 1 These items are ongoing according to
Schedule the work plan.
2 See response to Task 2.
3 We disagree with the DHS insinuation
that migration of dust containing con-
taminants is a significant issue that
requires immediate resolution. One
of the objectives of the PHERA and
initial dioxins evaluation was, by
established scientific and risk
assessment procedures, to identify
those area that are of immediate con-
cern in order to focus work to address
the identified areas of importance.
The basic function of the PHERA is to
allow a timely and efficient expendi-
ture of time and funds to address
those items that may impact public
health and the environment. An
example was the identified need to
keep trespassers from the site which
was addressed by fixing the site
fence and reinforcing site security
by hiring a weekend night guard ser-
vice. Another is the identified need
to define the limit of the off-site
groundwater plume. Dioxins and air
contaminants were not shown to be
priority items.
