disposed of in the trash dumpsters. Feathers routinely fall into the manure and are
handled with the manure. The exception is during the molt times in the "scrape and
flush" houses when the feathers float to the top of the sump pits. They are then
manually raked out and will be disked or roto-tilled into the ground to prevent any fly
breeding.
Feeding rti
Chicken feed (grain) is stored in closed feed bins (silos) at the front and rear of the hen
houses. It is then augured into the automatic feeding system. Any feed spillage
resulting from a mechanical breakdown will be promptly cleaned up. Since the feed is
automatically augured directly into the chicken hoppers, there is minimal spillage which
is swept up weekly. The feed storage silos are sealed against the weather and do not
need cleaning as the chickens routinely go through a full silo every three days.
Vector Control
Rodents are controlled by rodenticides applied in "Tom Cat" bait stations throughout the
ranch. These bait stations are serviced every two weeks. The grounds surrounding the
hen houses are disked and mowed to minimize rodent harborage. Doroteo Rivera is
the onsite manager who is currently responsible for servicing the bait stations.
Flies are controlled in the windrows by spraying. Fly breeding is minimal in the manure
lagoon. Areas attracting flies (dumpsters, employee eating areas, etc.) are treated with
a sugar bait as necessary.
Facility it Ian
The two residences, their septic systems, the onsite solid waste dumpsters, and onsite
incinerators have all been marked and high-lighted on the facility plot map.
Edward F.
