San Joaquin County Envv ntal Health Dept.
February 25,2011
Page 6
Hazardous Waste Manifest will be mailed by the waste vendor to the store with a photocopy mailed to
the DTSC.
Alkaline Batteries —AutoZone stores sell alkaline batteries, but do not accept spent alkaline batteries
from customers. Additionally, AutoZone stores do not have any equipment or processes which
generate spent alkaline batteries. Spent alkaline batteries, if any, are processed through the CA Retail
Chemical Waste program at each store.
Fluorescent Lamps—Store employees are specifically trained to never handle spent fluorescent bulbs.
AutoZone contracts with Sylvania Lighting Services (SLS)to relamp every store on a three year cycle
and to inspect each store semi-annually to replace individual fluorescent bulbs (indoors) and metal
halide bulbs (outdoors) as necessary. SLS consolidates all customer waste lamps at their facility and
properly disposes through a bulb management program with Waste Management. SLS does not
provide a Bill of Lading to each individual facility, but rather maintains BOL documentation for all
lamps leaving their facility. Scott Agnew with Sylvania Lighting Services (404-307-2472) can
provide additional details regarding AutoZone's fluorescent bulb program.
As requested during our telephone conversation on Friday January 28,AutoZone is attaching a copy of
our CA Retail Chemical Waste Program summary which is displayed in the waste handling area at
each store.
Should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to call (901.495.6949) or email
(andrew.beaven@autozone.com)me at your earliest convenience.
Regirds,
Andrew Beaven
Environmental Manager
Attachments
