VCVSHealth
Ms. Florido
September 28, 2018
Page 5
Your Report mentions that an electronic light switch was found in the toxics (TX)
hazardous waste tote, as directed by the scanning unit. Your Report noted that when asked about
the switch in the TX tote, the store manager indicated that he was unsure how to inquire about
the final disposition direction given by the scan gun. Store colleagues are provided with
resources, including hazardous waste posters and final disposition guidance in the hazardous
waste storage areas which directs colleagues to call the Environmental Hotline if they have
questions pertaining to the retail hazardous waste program. Additional training on these
resources has been provided to store personnel,to ensure that questions pertaining to final
disposition direction on the scan units are directed to the Corporate Environmental Team via the
Environmental Hotline.
Expired NRT
In your Report, you reference observation of expired nicotine replacement therapy(NRT)
products on the shelves, behind the registers, for sale. The CVS Health policy for NRT requires
stores to pull NRT from the sales floor within 60 days of expiration. Additional training has been
provided to store colleagues to ensure NRT products are pulled off of retail shelves according to
the CVS Health policy for these retail items.
Annual Training/Training Records
Your item#119 relates to the store's hazardous waste training plan. CVS requires all
store colleagues to be trained upon hire and annually thereafter on CVS's hazardous waste
management program through one or more training modules available via our web-based training
system, LEARNet. Colleagues are assigned training modules according to the scope of his or her
job responsibility. CVS has developed the attached matrix, which lists job duties related to
hazardous waste management, a description of such duties, and a list of store-level responsible
employees by category and job code. This matrix supplements the Training Program Plan and
Course Overview on pages 6-7 of the Program Overview(attached) and applies to all retail store
locations. The type and amount of introductory and continuing training provided to store
employees is discussed in the Program Overview.
Training records are maintained online and are accessible by each store employee. We
have also obtained a consolidated training record for Store 9830, which included training records
for colleagues John Alley, Mathew Hunt, Charelene Adams and Caitlin Albright for your review.
You also requested records for Jazmine Tebaldi, but we did not find any listing for this person.
We tried various versions of spelling and our Human Resources Department was unable to locate
this store colleague. However, we have confirmed that all employees that currently handle
hazardous waste at this location are properly trained.
Additionally, after receiving your Report, one of our Environmental Specialists located in
California, Chris Yerzy, provided in-person reinforcement training to store personnel who handle
hazardous waste to ensure proper management of hazardous waste. This visit included a general
C" pharmacy /caremark / minute clinic / specialty
364827630
