A report was submitted on July 26,2000 that confirms the belief that
landfill gas is influencing the groundwater in the vicinity of MW-5. This report satisfies both the
delineation and evaluation of extent of the release. In order to implement corrective action measures the
Report of Waste Discharge must be updated. This is amendment#1 to that document.
The County proposes that monitoring of the groundwater continue according to the current standard.
Quarterly monitoring will be held and the results will be statistically evaluated. The County proposes that
the new water standard become the drinking water standard for each individual constituent. The
effectiveness of the gas control system will be demonstrated through statistical analysis of the
groundwater. A decreasing trend should become evident thus showing the impact that the system is
having on VOC concentrations.
The County is currently in the process of installing a landfill gas collection and control system at the
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill. The system is scheduled to be operational in the middle of April,2001.
Please see the enclosed documents for details on the landfill gas collection and control system,an
application for waste discharge requirements, and the Joint Technical Document checklist.
If you have any questions please call me at(209)468-3066.
Sincerely,

MICHAEL KALISH
Associate Engineer
MK:vn
Enclosure
c: Robert McClellon,Public Health Services,Environmental Health Division
LA 64201
