i <br /> i <br /> i <br /> CODE OF SAFE PRACTICES <br /> ELECTRICAL <br /> 1. The workplace electricians should be familiar with the Cal/OSHA Electrical Safety orders. <br /> 2. Workers are required to report,as soon as practical,any obvious hazard to life or property observed <br /> in connection with electrical equipment or lines. <br /> 3. Workers should be instructed to make preliminary inspections and/or appropriate tests to determine <br /> what conditions exist before starting work m►electrical equipment or lines. <br /> 4. When electrical equipment or lines are to be serviced,maintained,or adjusted,necessary switches <br /> should be Locked•out and Tagged whenever possible. <br /> 5. Portable electrical tools and equipment should be grounded or of the double•ins►lated type. <br /> 6. Make all electrical appliances such as vacuu►n cleaners,polishers,and vending machines grounded. <br /> 7. All extension cords being used should have a grounding conductor. <br /> 8. The ground-fault circuit interrupters installed on each temporary 15 or 20 ampere,120 volt AC <br /> circuit at Iocations where construction,demolition,modifications,alterations,or excavations are <br /> being performed. <br /> B <br /> 9. All temporary circuits protected by suitable disconnecting switches or plug connectors at the <br /> junction should be with permanent wiring. <br /> 10. The exposed wiring and cords with frayed or deteriorated insulation should be repaired or <br /> replaced promptly. <br /> i <br /> 11. The flexible cords and cables should be free of splices or taps. <br /> 12. Clamps or other securing means should be provided on flexible cords or cables at plugs, <br /> receptacles,tools,and equipment and the cord jacket securely held in place. <br /> 13. The cord,cable,and raceway connections should be intact and secure. <br /> 14. The location of electrical power lines and cables(overhead,underground,underfloor,other side of <br /> walls)should be determined before digging,drilling,or similar work is begun. <br /> 15. The metal measuring tapes,ropes,handlines,or similar devices with metallic thread woven into the <br /> fabric should be prohibited where they could come in contact with energized parts of equipment or <br /> circuit conductors. <br /> 16. The use of metal ladders is prohibited in areas where the ladder or the person using the ladder could <br /> coupe in contact with energized parts of equipment,fixtures,or circuit conductors. <br /> 17. The disconnecting switches and circuit breakers should be labeled to indicate their use or equipment <br /> served. <br /> (continued on next page) <br />
