0 i
will be processed on site or be disposed off site.
The soil fed into the thermal processing unit will be heated to
300-500 degrees Fahrenheit to vaporize both the moisture and the
petroleum hydrocarbon contaminants contained in the soil . The
vapors are cleaned and condensed by a series of scrubbers and
condensers. The combined condensate will be processed through an
oil/water separator from which the recovered fuel will be sent to
a commercial recycler. The water from the oil/water separator
will be treated to remove trace concentrations of organics, then
used for dust control on the treated soil . The operation and
performance of the thermal processing unit is further described
by the enclosed description of general capabilities and the
piping and instrument (P&I) diagram.
The performance of the unit and the quality of the recovered soil
will be monitored as described in the attached Waste Analysis
Plan. Each day' s production of recovered soil will be kept
segregated pending confirmation by a State certified lab that
clean-up levels as specified by the regulatory agencies have been
met. After confirmation, the soil will be transferred to the
recovered soil stockpile area and will be available for recycling
and reuse.
Although the unit may operate seven dabs per week, receipt of
contaminated soils will be limited to normal business hours, five
days per week.
The facility staffing requirements are as follows:
1 - Facility Manager
1 - Lab Technician
2 - Facility Operators per shift
