The soil is
heated to 300-500 degrees Fahrenheit by passing a non-hazardous
heat transfer fluid through the flights, shaft and jacket of ar
specially fabricated multi-screw, agitator system.
The heat transfer fluid is continuously circulated and heated in
a closed loop heater assembly designed specifically for the SRU.
The heater may be fueled by either natural gas, propane or fuel
oil . The transfer fluid is a blend of natural oils and is
completely non-toxic.
Vapors generated by the SRU are processed by a combination of
scrubbers, separators and condensers. The vapor processing system
permits compliant operation under the most stringent air quality
regulations. Recovered hydrocarbons are returned to the generator
or may be handled as commercially recyclable waste.
The SRU is mounted on one 40 ' long semi-trailer. The unit is
designed for assembly and start-up within 24 hours after arrival
on site. The system is supplied with a variety of solids
processing and handling equipment for any necessary material
preparation.
SRU performance, i .e. throughput and treated soil quality, is
governed by soil moisture, molecular weight of the hydrocarbon
contaminant, operating temperature and soil characteristics.
Typically, the SRU will process four to six tons of contaminated
soil per hour. The treated soil readily contains less than 100
ppm TPH as determined by EPA Method 8015. Depending upon the
above defined performance parameters, lower clean-up levels may
be achievable.
