Box 388
Stockton, California 95201-0388
Dear Mr. Padilla:
am writing this letter to sumrnarize some of the issues we dealt with on our
meeting of August 1 .
1 . Temperature Readinos
In order to effectively reduce pathogen levels (Section 17887), CWRS
will monitor and record temperatures of the active compost seven (7)
days per week during the peak season, from roughly July 15th through
September 15th. The remainder of the year, CWRS will monitor
temperatures during normal workdays - 5 days per week. However, in
December, in order to test the ability of the windrows to sustain
temperatures above 55 degrees Celsius in the coldest months, we will
take temperature readings for a 15 consecutive day period. If the
temperature of the compost remains above the 55 degree C limit, we
will continue the practice of rneasuring temperatures 5 days/week until
July 15th.
2. Metals Analysis
As per Section 17887(a)(1 )(A) CWRS will take one composite sample
of finished compost per 5,000 cubic yards produced and have it
analyzed for the 10 metals listed in Table 1 of the above-referenced
section. Based on our annual compost production of approximately
20,000 cubic yards, the metals analysis will be performed quarterly.
You will be receiving the most recent test results within the next week.
A tentative schedule for future metals testing is as follows:
October '15, 1994
January 15, 1995
1333 E.TURNER ROAD P.O.
