California WasteT= + Y
Systems, Inc.
February 19, 1998
Mr. David Vaccarezza
999 E. Turner Road
Lodi, California 95240
Dear David.
I would like to take this opportunity to respond to your concerns outlined in the certified
letter, dated 1/30/98,that you sent to us. I appreciate your comments as one of our facility's
closest neighbors. I want to assure you that we at California Waste Systems, Inc. are going
above and beyond the normal operating requirements of a permitted solid waste and compost
facility to ensure that our operation impacts your residence as little as possible.
First, for your information we have just received clearance from the City of Stockton to
ship green waste out of our Lodi facility to be used as landfill cover. As you are aware,
California Waste Systems,Inc.has already limited the amount of green waste coming into our
facility by more that 33% during the last 18 months. We are only accepting our own
residentially-collected green waste and public transfer station green waste customers. We also
"cleared the decks" of rotovac and gypsum to decrease the amount of material on site and reduce
the possibility of odors.
Second,we compared the dates of your odor complaints with our turning schedules and
realize there is almost a day-to-day correspondence. Realizing this,we will make a concerted
effort to schedule ourr aerating processing on anticipated no-wind or southerly wind days. This
practice should alleviate any detectable odors to be carried away from your property towards
other areas which do not have residences. However, the fact that we are mandated to maintain
proper temperature and processing schedules this practice may not always be possible. The
combined affect of these efforts will significantly decrease the amount of actively composting
material on site, and should also decrease any perceptible.odors that may arise from the
composting process.
1333 E.
