Mr. David Vaccarezza
February 19, 1998
Page Two
Third,we have altered our operating schedules to alleviate your concerns with noise. We
do not have any composting crews working on Sundays. On Saturdays, if we do need to work,
we are not starting until 7:30 a.m. Regular work days, Monday through Friday, our starting time
is 7:00 a.m. Regarding back-up alarms on our equipment, these alarms were authorized by you
in the pre-merger company. They are currently OSHA-approved and are"smart" in the sense
that they only sound if there are objects in their vicinity. Until OSHA regulations are changed,
we are bound by law to use them.
Fourth and last, for your information, all of our monthly, regulatory inspections by the
Public Health Department have had no violations or areas of concern with regards to compost
odors. Further, there have not been any complaints from any of our other neighbors(Guild Wine
Complex, Casa de Lodi, and homes farther to the southeast of the facility) during the past 6
months.
I want to reiterate our priority to mitigate any possible odors or noise impacts that our
operation has on all our neighboring residences. I believe the points I have outlined will
illustrate how much we have done and are doing to be a good corporate citizen and neighbor.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or comments about the facility.
Sincerely,
Peter Holtzclaw
Plant Manager
cc: Thom Sanchez
