• Wrap all glass sample containers in bubble wrap material to prevent breakage. <br /> • A sturdy cooler shall be used as a shipping container. <br /> • Tape drain plug of shipping container shut from the inside and outside. <br /> • Place a large plastic bag inside the shipping container. This bag shall serve as a liner <br /> with all sample containers being placed inside of it. <br /> • Place approximately 1 inch of packing material such as Styrofoam peanuts in the bottom <br /> of the shipping container liner. <br /> • Separate glass containers from each other with cushioning or absorbent material, such <br /> as Styrofoam, cardboard, newspaper, or bubble wrap to prevent breakage while in <br /> shipment. <br /> • Protect plastic containers from being punctured by sharp objects. <br /> • For samples requiring cooling, ice, or an acceptable substitute, shall be placed in <br /> separate double-lined and sealed plastic bags and placed on top of the sample <br /> containers. Assure that enough ice has been packed into the cooler to maintain the <br /> required minimum sample temperature during shipment. <br /> • After placing sample containers into the shipping container, sufficient packing material <br /> shall be placed into the shipping container to prevent shifting of the sample containers <br /> during transport. <br /> • Seal outer plastic bag (liner) with plastic tab locks, reinforced tape, or other positive <br /> holding means. <br /> • The sampler shall sign the COC record relinquishing custody of the samples. <br /> • The sampler shall retain the bottom copy (pink) of the COC record. <br /> • The sampler shall place the remaining copies of the COC record (white and yellow) in a <br /> sealed Zip-Loc plastic bag and tape them to the inside of the shipping container lid. <br /> • Close shipping container and seal lid with shipping (fiber) tape. <br /> • The sampler shall sign and date a minimum of two (2) custody seals using indelible ink. <br /> • The Site Coordinator shall attach one (1) custody seal across the shipping container lid <br /> opening along the hinge side of the lid and attach one (1) on the opposite side of the lid <br /> near the closing hatch. <br /> • Mark shipping container"This Side Up" with arrows indicating the proper upward position <br /> of the container.
