Recharge Scenario 1 — CIMIS Ripon Station
For the CIMIS-only scenario, the local percolation and evapotranspiration rates obtained
through CIMIS are presented in Plate 13. The closest CIMIS station to the Site is
Ripon, located approximately 10.7 miles away. Data for this station were available for
2017, 2018, and 2019. Based on the calculation shown, the estimated rate of recharge
from percolating waters for the Ripon station is determined to be 3.00 inches.
Recharge Scenario 2— CIMIS and WRCC Tracy Pumping Plant Stations
For the scenario combining CIMIS and WRCC data (Plate 14), the closest WRCC
station is the Tracy Pumping Plant (station 049001), located approximately 8.7 miles
from the Site. This station is approximately two miles closer than the closest CIMIS
station, and as a result is anticipated to have more accurate regional rainfall data.
WRCC does not track evapotranspiration; consequently, evapotranspiration data from
the Ripon station were utilized. Based on the calculation shown, the estimated rate of
recharge from percolating waters for vicinity of the Site is determined to be 4.92 inches.
Live Oak has selected this scenario for use in the nitrate loading calculation based on
the proximity of the Tracy Pumping Plant station to the project Site.
Quality of Rainwater
Hantzsche and Finnemore listed 1 mg/L-N as the nitrate concentration of rainwater for
their original calculation; in the past, Live Oak has also utilized this value for the nitrate
loading calculation.
In May 2019, Live Oak collected rainwater during two storm events in Lodi; in March
and May 2020, Live Oak collected two additional samples at the same location. Each
sample was collected in a clean, dry, stainless steel bowl, then decanted into a plastic
container and placed on ice for transport. The samples were analyzed for nitrate by
FGL Environmental of Stockton.
Nitrate was detected in the May 17, 2019 sample at a concentration of 0.4 mg/L-N, in
the May 19, 2019 sample at a concentration of 0.2 mg/L-N, in the March 16, 2020
sample at a concentration of 0.2 mg/L, and in the May 18, 2020 sample at a
concentration of 0.4 mg/L. Live Oak then averaged the concentrations of the four
samples, for a value of 0.30 mg/L-N to represent the nitrate concentration of rain.
Because the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department has requested that
local and recent data be utilized wherever possible, the concentration of the Lodi
rainwater been selected for use in the nitrate loading calculation.
LOGE 20-44 Page 9
