LOGE 1605: Durst Winery NLS Addendum Page 4
March 21, 2016
According to Mr. Durst, the small winery is open seven days a week. Mr. Durst estimates
that, on average, less than 10 customers per day visit the winery. On weekdays (Monday
through Thursday), the only employees will be those living in the house on-site; as such,
these employees are excluded from the flow calculation. On Friday and Sunday, one
additional employee will be present, and on Saturday, two additional employees will be
present. A total of 20 marketing events per year are anticipated, with up to 100 cluests
present at each event. Each event will require two staff members, according to Mr. Durst.
The nitrate as nitrogen (N) concentration of these uses is estimated to be 85-mg/L (Crites and
Tchobanoglous, 1998).
In addition to the winery uses, the existing four-bedroom residence is considered for the nitrate
loading. We estimate a maximum use of 120 gallons per day per bedroom for the residence. A
typical residential concentration of 45 mg/L of nitrate as N is selected (Crites and
Tchobanoglous, 1998). It is possible a second dwelling unit could be constructed on the Site in
the future. The second dwelling unit can be up to two bedrooms. This potential future use is
considered.
No contributions from the future vineyard irrigation or soil amendments are considered for the
Hantzsche/Finnemore method, It is reasonably assumed that the irrigation and soil amendments
would be applied at close to agronomic rates for a net balance of plant irrigation and nutrients.
The maximum average daily flow for the Site was estimated to be 806.2 gallons per day (gpd).
Through the use of a weighted average, the average concentration of all the different effluent
flows and concentrations was determined to be 49.3 mg/L-N at 806.2 gallons per day. Please
see the following tables that present the information in a tabular form.
