One sample was collected downstream of the landfill (under
the Souther Pacific Railroad bridge) and one sample was collected at the upstream
(southeast) comer of the landfill.
Prior to collecting each sample, the temperature, pH, and electrical conductivity of the
water at the sample location was measured. All sampling equipment was then
decontaminated using a detergent wash and a distilled-water rinse to reduce the potential
for cross-contamination. The sample was collected using a Teflon bailer. Samples were
collected in properly sterile and preserved bottles supplied by the analytical laboratory.
Immediately after collection, the samples were placed in an iced cooler and were
transported to the laboratory under chain-of-custody control. The chain-of-custody is
included in Appendix A.
The two surface water samples were submitted for analysis of-
0 Volatile Organics by EPA Methods 601 and 602
o Metals by ICAP
o Mercury, Selenium, and Arsenic by AA
o General Minerals
o COD
o Nitrate
137-88-1663 11
