•
SITE CONDITIONS AND HISTORY
The approximate 4-acre site lies between the Mokelumne River, the
Southern Pacific Railroad tracks, and the termination of Awani
Drive. At the time of this testing, the brown sand Loma surface
soil had been tilled leaving furrows and scattered vegetation on
lots 1 through 5 as delineated on Addendum A. Lot No. 6 had
numerous piles of fill dirt which had not yet been graded.
The project site has a history of having been used as a landfill
for dry organic waste and construction debris from 1935 to 1955.
Available information as to the tonnage and makeup of the fill is
apparently unrecorded. Apparently since 1955 the site was
! intermittently used to dispose of additional organic material
reportedly "tree limbs and grass clippings. "
Existing preconstruction preparations consisted of the removal of
the top two feet of fill present during the soils investigation by
"The Foundation Engineers, Inc. " and 11J. H. Kleinfelder" I and
replacement with approximately four feet of "good Lodi dirt. "
This preconstruction preparation was completed approximately three
years ago. The fill dirt was not compacted other than that which
nominally occurs during grading.
8
TESTING PROCEDURE
The following procedures were used for field testing:
1. Install driven 1/2 steel pipe wells to a depth of nine feet.
The bottom two feet to be perforated every inch at right
angles to the preceding perforation (approximate location
depicted on Addendum B) .
2 . Barhole at approximately 50-foot intervals around perimeter
of site and utilizing GasTechtor and OVA test for the
presence of CH4 (approximate location depicted as Addendum
_ B) .
3 . Purge driven wells by twice their volume and collect Tedlar
bag samples.
1 4 . Field test well samples and submit highest concentration
sample to lab for N2 , 02 , CO2 , CH4 halogenated hydrocarbons,
vinyl chloride, and benzene.
4
Testing
On February 29, 1988, four driven wells were installed on the site
at approximate locations denoted on Addendum B. The wells were
designated as Wells 1A, 2B, 3C, and 4D. Preliminary well testing
with a GasTechtor Model 1314 indicated CH4 concentrations of
between 350 to 400 parts per million. r-
70-Y87010 2
