Sludge Disposal Plan
Industrial Wastewater
The second system of the wastewater treatment plant is classified as the"Industrial
Ponds". These ponds receive uncontaminated wastewater from the city's only two
industrial dischargers. The dischargers are food processors. They process tomatoes
and bell peppers.
As the processor's finish their respective"season", the wastewater treatment plant still
receives some of their wash down water. The"wash water",will normally last between
one and three weeks. When the industrial plant is no longer receiving flow each pond is
drained and emptied in sequence. Pond 2 is the pond that is normally drained first and
then the process of draining is as follows: Pond 3 flows to pond 1,which drains to pond
4 that essentially is drained to the lower percolation ponds out near the back side of the
treatment plant. After the flow pattern has followed the flow design through the plant, the
industrial treatment ponds are drained and the sludge that is left behind is dried in place.
These ponds are normally without water for nearly six months out of every year. This
allows for extensive drying time every year.
This sludge will not be stored on site for any longer than two years at any time and
subsequently it will be hauled away to the nearest state approved disposal site.
If you have any questions regarding this sludge disposal plan, please feel free to call me
at(209) 838-4114.
Sincerely,
Doug Stidham
