(juLk.ITA
U T Y
Salon Containers — California ONLY
Stores in California need to manage all empty salon containers in the hazardous waste program. No
empty salon containers can be placed in the trash at any time. All California stores need to have a
special container and label exclusively for empty containers of hair dye and developers used by Salon
professionals and follow the direction below:
■ At the end of the day, the retail closing manager will take the special Salon container into the
backroom and place the empty hair color containers into the "Oxidizer" hazardous waste
container in the backroom.
■ For all other empty Salon containers (hair spray, shampoo, conditioner, Dermalogica
products), the Services Manager or the Guest Services Coordinator will place the empty
containers into the appropriate hazardous waste container in the backroom.
■ Containers should be lined at all times. Stores can use small garbage bags to line the inside
of this container.
Fixtures Containing Ballasts or Light Bulbs
Stores outside of California do not need to manage any fixtures as hazardous waste. Fixtures can be
disposed of in the normal trash (not recycling) if not directed to send back to the vendor.
• California stores must manage any fixtures containing a ballast or light bulbs as hazardous
waste and follow the process outlined below. Store associates will not have to breakdown
fixtures. Fixtures containing electrical ballasts should be:
■ Placed in the Hazardous Waste area of the backroom
■ Labeled as State Managed
■ Checked for light bulbs
■ Light bulbs should be removed (if possible) and placed into the 4-ft. Light bulb box
located in the hazardous waste area.
■ Removed at the next scheduled hazardous waste pickup
■ NOTE: If a fixture is blocking walkways and immediate pickup is needed, the store
should submit a Service Channel ticket as soon as possible.
Spill Processing
Proper clean-up and spill processing are critical for associate and guest safety. By following the spill
procedures in this document, waste will be disposed of safely, responsibly, and in compliance with
hazardous waste regulations.
Examples of common spills:
■ Broken nail polish
• Broken fragrance bottle
■ Leaking shampoo
• Shattered powder foundation
■ Broken light bulb
thel9okjjjrW are beautiful:M
UltaNet---> Operations--+ Haz Waste---> Process Docs.
