As part of the weekly transmission process, the MIA device is used to determine whether the <br /> product is hazardous and will provide the hazardous waste classification (e.g., Flammable Liquid, <br /> Flammable Gas) if applicable. <br /> Even if the MIA device is not registering an item as hazardous, associates should refer to the <br /> Potentially Hazardous Waste Management Poster and always err on the side of caution using <br /> the guidelines below: <br /> ■ In California, treat all unsalable cosmetic, skincare and hair care items, PCA tools, testers <br /> (including empty testers), salon products (including empty salon products) and cleaning <br /> supplies (including empty cleaning supplies) as hazardous, as well as fragrance, nail polish, <br /> and aerosols. <br /> ■ Outside of California, treat all unsalable fragrance, nail polish, and aerosol items as hazardous. <br /> State Managed Waste <br /> SKUs classified as hazardous waste varies by state, and some states have a separate category of <br /> waste classified as State Managed Waste such as California and Washington. <br /> Process <br /> During the store's weekly transmission processing day, certain items may be considered hazardous <br /> and, if so, must be classified and managed appropriately. Please refer to the Damages document <br /> located at UltaNet -;� Operations -7N Inventory --,4 Day to Day Inventory Control 4 Damages for how to <br /> identify and process hazardous waste. <br /> Containers and Labels <br /> All hazardous waste materials must be placed in a specific hazardous waste container. This will allow <br /> the waste transporter to quickly pick up and process all hazardous waste materials.
