i 0
MATERIAL PROCESSING, HANDELING, AND STORAGE PRACTICES
PROCESSING
Feedstock: The poultry manure will be processed directly after it is removed
from the Honen's daily. If there is a problem with the composting machine,
it may sit for a few hours prior to processing. The wood shavings are stored
in a clean, dry, covered area until ready for mixing with the poultry manure
to produce compost. Depending on how big the delivered load of wood
shavings is it could last for a week or two before more shavings are
delivered again.
Processed Material: From the time of mixing the poultry manure with the
wood shavings to a completed compost product is 28 days. The completed
compost is piled and a sample is collected and sent to a laboratory for
analysis. It takes approximately 1 week to get the results back. Once the
results are received the compost can be bagged or sold bulk and removed
from the premises. The completed compost should not be stored on site for
more than 30 days.
PILE GEOMETRY
Feedstock: The dimensions of the compost windrow is 3'X20'X250'. Three
feet high, 20 feet wide, and 250 feet long. At the present time there are two
windrows in operation. The pile moves 7 feet per day.
Processed Material: The completed compost will be piled approximately
8'X20'X250' (8 feet high, 20 feet wide, and 250 feet long until bagged or
removed from the site. This should only be stored long enough to get the
laboratory results back, bag it, and/or sell it bulk. Storage should be 30
days or less.
WEATHER EVENTS IMPACTING THE OPERATION
There are only two products mixed to produce the compost. The wood
shavings are stored in a covered building directly next door to the
composting facility. Weather should not have an impact on the composting
operation. The poultry manure is produced daily no matter what the
conditions out -side are like. The poultry manure utilized as one of the
feedstock's in the compost is produced on-site year round. Weather
changes will not impact or change production of the manure, manure
consistency, or timing of the product.
