Backus [EH]
Sent: Monday, May 21, 2007 10:37 AM
To: 'caliconsulting@softcom.net'
Subject: FW: SKS - manure lagoon cleanup and fill in with soil
Hi Tish,
I finally got a chance to review the OIMP doc you gave me on April 25, 2007. Everything looks good to me except
the site map. There are 4 ponds near Honens 1-5 which are identified as manure ponds. Are these ponds used
for manure storage? I thought these were fresh water ponds only.
The map does not identify the manure storage pits next to each Honen 1-5.
The map does not identify the manure storage pond directly behind the Bunker House. On the map, this pond
appears to be a white rectangle.
In the Site Description the woody block is described as rows of trees surrounded by a soil berm. Identify the
woody block on the site map.
Please mail or email a new site map to me.
Sincerely,
Garrett Backus
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
(209) 468-2986
From: Garrett T. Backus [EH]
Sent: Wednesday, April 25, 2007 3:25 PM
To: 'caliconsulting@softcom.net'
Subject: SKS - manure lagoon cleanup and fill in with soil
Hi Tish,
I have more info regarding the large manure storage pond behind the bunker. As we discussed, SKS is phasing
out the manure pond and they want to fill the pond with soil. The remaining liquid needs to be pumped out of the
pond and placed in the adjacent pond as SKS has been doing in the past. The remaining manure should be
scraped out of the empty pond and dried adjacent to the pond. We do not want SKS to use their dry pad (to the
east of the bunker) for drying this manure. The dried manure can be collected and composted or sold to farmers.
In order to fill in the pond with soil, SKS must contact the San Joaquin County Community Development
Department to get a Grading and/or Excavation Permit.
We need SKS to send my department a plan for this operation. It can be a basic plan in the form of a short letter.
Sincerely,
Garrett Backus, REHS
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
304 E Weber Ave, 3rd floor
Stockton, CA 95202
6/25/2007
