11
11
OTHER SOURCES OF POSSIBLE ODORS PRODUCED ON-SITE OTHER THAN MANURE:
EGGS: The waste eggs (cracked, chipped, blood spots, etc.) from the packing
shed are dumped into 5 5 gallon barrels. The surface area of the barrel is
completely covered with corn meal and currently picked up by California
Spray Dry Company for pet food. S.K.S. is currently researching other uses
for the waste eggs.
TRAsH: All garbage generated within the facility is put in an 8'X 16' X 6'
trailer and hauled to North County Landfill, Harney Lane by S.K.S. employees
approximately 2 times a week.
Bran MORTALITY: S.K.S. has about a 5% mortality rate. The birds are
incinerated on-site. If large amounts of birds need to be disposed of, S.K.S.
will dispose of the carcasses at an Environmental Health Department
approved site.
SEPTIC SYsTENrs: There are 14 domestic septic systems on-site. They are
located by the residences, the processing plant, and any Honen that has a
bathroom associated with it. These systems are for human waste only.
They are underground and pumped out as needed by a commercial septic
company.
San Joaquin County is characterized by hot dry summers and cool moist
winters. There is a high pressure area offshore that reduces the weather
systems from entering this area during the summer months. In the winter
months the high pressure shifts southward whereby allowing weather
systems to enter this area producing moist cool weather and frequent heavy
fogs. The average annual precipitation consists of approximately 17 inches
per year, and usually occurs from the months of October through May. The
cool moist Pacific winds enter the county through the Carquinez Straight
gap.
WIND VELOCITY AND DIRECTION
Historical wind data indicates prevailing wind is from the northwest at
approximately 8 miles per hour. High winds occur infrequently and are
usually associated with the passage of winter storm systems out of the
Pacific Ocean.
