Each type of house is
designed to function differently and will be described below. At the present
time the facility operates year round with approximately 540,000 birds.
Honen(s) 1-5 are approximately 40 years old. They are lath type houses
called Woody's. None of the Woody's are in use at this time. All of them are
empty. Woody's 1 and 2 are being cleaned, while Woody's 3, 4, and 5 have
been cleaned and disinfected. Each woody is 54,150 square feet and made
of wood lath with metal roofs. There is a single row of hanging cages with a
wooden scrape board beneath the cages. They have concrete path ways and
shallow pits directly below the row of cages and scrape board. The boards
were scraped clean daily; manure was liquefied; and transported to the large
storage pond. Each Honen has a small storage pond associated with it to
capture excess water. The small storage ponds appear to be maintained
occasionally for vegetation control.
