COMPOST FACILITY: This is a 60,000 square foot enclosed building with
concrete foundations and floors. This building houses one compost
machine and 4 rows/pits of compost. Approximately 32 cubic yards of
manure and carbon are dumped into the east side of this facility daily. It
will take approximately 28 to 30 days to complete a load of compost.
Approximately 23 cubic yards of compost will be completed per day. The
composting house will have the capability to process 10 tons of chicken
manure per pit per day and there are 4 pits. Everyday the machine moves
the compost 7 feet. They are in the process of researching and purchasing
another composting machine for the facility. Completed compost will be
held on a concrete slab until the laboratory analysis is run and it can be
sold. SKS is researching various bagging machines to bag the finished
product.
WASTE STORAGE PONDS: There are several storage ponds on-site. There are
small storage ponds between each of the Woody's for collection of rain
runoff. There is a storage pond west of the processing plant for wash water
and rain runoff from the processing plant. The large manure storage pond
is by the bunker, this is where all the liquefied manure from the Honen's
was stored. Previously a thin layer of water was applied to the surface of the
manure in the pond to reduce flies and odors. Since the Honen's are no
longer in use this manure pond is in the process of having the solids
removed and it will then be covered or filled in with clean fill dirt. There is a
small pond in what was historically utilized as the drying field. This pond
was utilized to capture any seepage and/or runoff that may occur while
drying out the manure. The dry field was utilized to spread a thin layer of
poultry manure on. This allowed the manure to dry out rapidly reducing
odors and flies. The field is level and sloped slightly towards the catch
pond. This field was only utilized to dry out the manure, it was then
recollected and disposed of.
RESIDENCES: There are 7 residences or employee housing on-site. They
consist of trailer homes, modular homes, and stick homes at various
locations throughout the S.K.S. property. Each residence does not have it's
own well or septic.
WELLS; There are 4 domestic wells on-site. They provide fresh water to the
residences, poultry houses, and processing plant. The wells are within the
poultry operation and pipelines transport water around the operation and to
the residences..
DIRT ROADS: The dirt roads are watered periodically during the summer
months to reduce the dust.
