Stock Ponds: There are 2 stock ponds or fresh water ponds on-site. These are utilized by
the cattle for drinking water.
Seasonal Creek and Wetlands: There has not been a formal wetland delineation conducted
at the site; however there are intermittent creeks and seasonal wetlands at the site.
Other Sources of Possible Odors Produced On-Site Other Than Manure:
Eggs: The waste eggs (cracked, chipped, blood spots, etc.) from the packing plant are
dumped into 55 gallon barrels. The surface area of the barrel is completely covered with
corn meal and picked up by California Spray Dry Company for pet food.
Trash:All garbage generated within the facility is put in an 8'X 16"X 6"trailer and
hauled to North County Landfill,Harney Lane by S.K.S. employees approximately 2 times
a week.
Bird Mortality: S.K.S. has about a 5% mortality rate. The birds are incinerated. If
large amounts of birds need to be disposed of, S.K.S. has an agreement with North County
Landfill, 17900 E. Harney Lane for disposal of the carcasses.
Septic Systems: There are 14 domestic septic systems on-site. They are located by the
residences, the processing plant, and any house that has a bathroom associated with it.
These systems are for human waste only. They are underground and pumped out as
needed by a commercial septic company.
CLIMATE CONDITIONS
Climate
San Joaquin County is characterized by hot dry summers and cool moist winters. There
is a high pressure area offshore that reduces the weather systems from entering this area
during the summer months. In the winter months the high pressure shifts southward
whereby allowing weather systems to enter this area producing moist cool weather and
frequent heavy fogs. The average annual precipitation consists of approximately 17
inches per year, and usually occurs from the months of October through May. The cool
moist Pacific winds enter the county through the Carquinez Straight gap.
5
