05 January 2018 AdvancedGeo
AGE Project No. 14-3154 Environmental
Waste Cell area and between 13 and 15 feet bsg in North Waste Cell area. Samples will
be collected continuously from the seven (7) step-out borings surrounding the former
waste cell limits; and if necessary, from all additional borings surrounding the waste cell
limits. And samples will be collected at eight (8) feet bsg along the sidewalls of the former
North Waste Cell excavation and at six (6) feet bsg along the sidewalls of the former
South Waste Cell excavation. Upon sample retrieval, the full liner, or portion of, will be
covered with Teflon sheets, capped, and sealed with tape. Sealed and labeled samples
will be placed in a chilled container under ice and transported under chain-of-custody
procedure to a CDPH-certified laboratory.
AGE proposes to analyze a total of 17 soil samples collected beneath the interface of
imported backfill soil in the former waste cell areas for dioxin/furan and full list of PCBs;
two soil samples collected from the North Waste Cell and three soil samples collected
from South Waste Cell (minimum of 25% of all samples) will be analyzed for all the
constituents listed in Section 4.2. If any waste is encountered in the samples collected
from the step-out borings the waste will be analyzed for all the constituents listed in
Section 4.2. Additionally, all sidewall samples collected will also be analyzed for all the
constituents listed in Section 4.2.
Each sample will be labeled with boring designation, depth, time, date and sampler's
initials. Soils encountered in the borings will be visually classified by AGE personnel in
accordance with the USCS. Additionally, soil samples will be field-screened for the
presence of volatile organic compounds using a photo-ionization detector(PID) calibrated
to isobutylene.
5.3. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
Prior to use, all sampling tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with
clean water after being washed with a solution of Alconox. All probe tooling and rods will
be cleaned prior to advancement at each probe boring location.
5.4. BORING ABANDONMENT
All soil borings will be permanently sealed to prevent vertical migration of potential
contaminants. Soil borings shall be abandoned by backfilling with cement grout from the
total depth to surface grade. The top three to six inches of the boring abandonments will
be completed flush to surface grade with native soils or concrete. The SJCEHD will be
notified for grout inspection at least five days prior to conducting grouting procedures.
