I have kept in close contact with the contractor
(Ramcon Engineering and Environmental Contracting) and based on our discussions this afternoon they don’t plan to
resume work onsite until next week. The site conditions will be evaluated this weekend, and it is expected that the site
should be dry enough to proceed by Monday or Tuesday. I will notify everyone this weekend, or on Monday at the
latest, as to the actual schedule for starting back up. As far as the field schedule, once the work resumes Ramcon will be
working every weekday, usually 7am to 3pm (weather permitting). At this time, the weather forecast for all of next week
looks dry.
So far the work has been limited to removal and stockpiling of cap soils. Cap soils excavation commenced along the
easterly margin of the cap, and will proceed to the west as the work ensues. The maximum depth of cap soil excavation
so far has been about two feet, and the underlying wastes generally have not been exposed at that level (although test
excavations via shovel within excavated areas revealed the anticipated waste layer a few inches or more below that
level). As a wet weather mitigation measure, it was decided to leave the wastes in place and covered with some cap soil
in advance of the rains that we have experienced over the last few days. Attached is a photo taken on Monday showing
the easterly portion of the cap area where cap soils had been removed to a depth of about two feet; as shown, wastes
had not been encountered/engaged at that level, and thus have been protected from the rains.
