FiENJH
PERMi'i / SERVICES
On December 16, 1991, groundwater samples were taken from the two
shallow groundwater monitoring wells (MW -4, MW -5) at the Corral
Hollow Sanitary Landfill. This was an annual monitoring event, so
the samples were tested for metals and Volatile Organic Compounds.
Two VOCs, Tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and Trichlorofluoromethane
(Freon 11), were detected in the sample from MW -5 at 4 and 2 ppb
respectively. Based on these results, the County directed EMCON
Associates to resample MW -5 to confirm the results of the annual
monitoring program. MW -5 was resampled on February 12, 1992, and
analyzed for VOC's by EPA Method 624. The results of this sampling
are enclosed.
Title 23, Chapter 15, Article 5 calls for statistical analysis to
be performed to determine if there is statistically significant
evidence of a release from a waste management unit. PCE and Freon
11 went from 0 ppb to a level greater than 0. No statistical
analysis can be performed when all previous results are 0.
The County will continue to monitor MW -5 quarterly
the results will be submitted to the Board. if
questions, please call me at (209) 468-3066.
Sincerely,
GABRIEL, KARAM, P.E.
Senior Solid Waste Engineer
GK:WJ: vj
R:IVIRGINIAILETTERSIGWMON-CH.RE
Enclosure
c: Ed Padilla, San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division
LA 21204
for VOCs, and
you have any
