Mr.Mike Huggins
Page 2
August 25,2003
t the well due to high transpiration requirements of the plants. For this situation, the result of monitoring
would be 0 or no impact. During the winter months however, transpiration from plants will be greatly
reduced; therefore, daily waste water flow may cause excess moisture in the ground and may yield a
sample which would be used in the calculation. The average annual concentration of waste water will be
the basis of evaluation. The water quality monitoring program should begin two(2)months after initial
startup of the system. This time is needed to promote microbe colonies in the treatment pods, grow the
orchard grasses, and tune the settings of the system. Our office and Orenco System will provide service
to tune the system to its optimum performance. Should the disposal field monitoring fail to achieve an
average concentration under 45 mg/L-NO3(or 10 mg/L-N) for a period of two (2)years, an additional
treatment module would be added as needed. This is considered a back up measure. Orenco requires four
(4) service inspections per year of the AdvanTex®Treatment System which is described in the attached
AdvanTex'O&M Manual.
1
j The analytical monitoring plan is as follows:
Table 1.
Analytical Tests and Locations.
Inflow AdvanTex Outflow Drip Field Shallow Monitoring Wells
Buried 24 Inches Below the Ground Surface
TN test --- ---
Nitrate --- test test*
Nitrite --- test ---
Ammonia test ---
TKN — test --
BOD test
TSS --- test ---
pH --- test ---
COD --- test ---
Notes:
t *This test will be the basis of for determining the concentration of nitrate in the effluent.
Monitoring Frequency:
First year monthly monitoring,twelve(12)total.
Second year reduction as warrented, probably no less than four(4)times per year.
jThe drip field details are contained in the attached drawings. The size calculations are attached to this
letter. The system is pressure regulated(between 15 and 45 psi) so the drip emitters will flow 1 gallon
per hour each. There will be 1,321 emitters which will require the disposal field to be"on"for about 20
minutes per day. During the hot summer months, the grasses over the disposal field may require
supplemental irrigation. All the system settings will be provided in a construction completion letter.
System maintenance and monitoring will be provide by Neil O.Anderson&Associates, Inc,for an initial
'vEQs a
s
x w
o
ssot
