0 0
A description of the storage capacity and anticipated maximum and average length of
time compostable materials will be stored at the facility
The total facility is 20 acres and can store up to 50,000 tons of material on site at any one time.
However, materials will move through the site a much more rapid rate. Incoming feedstock will
be incorporated within 72hours, and the composting process takes 8-25 weeks during which
time the material shrinks in size by 50%, and is then cured. While no material will be stored for
more than 6 months, the longest time the compost will be stored is 3-4 months in the case of
season needs of a larger sale; more often the compost moves off the site within a month.
18227.g Compostable Materials Handling Equipment
A description of compostable materials handling equipment used at the facility
including type, capacity, and number of units
The equipment that is used for the composting operation includes: one tractor, one windrow
compost turner, one grinder, one dump truck, one trommel screen, two loaders, a scale and a
water truck. The County will be notified of any significant equipment changes, and the facility
will adhere to any additional requirements at that time. The equipment used on site will, at all
times, be able to incorporate incoming material within 72 hours and meet all regulatory
requirements.
Maintenance of all equipment is based on recommendations from the individual
manufacturers. Scheduled maintenance is conducted by onsite personnel. No used oil or fluids
are stored on site.
18227.h Annual Operating Capacity
Anticipated annual operation capacity for the facility in cubic -yards
The annual operating capacity for the facility includes incoming material at 156,000 tons per
year. This is approximately 313,000 cubic yards. As the material composts it eventually
reduces to 50% of the volume.
18227.i Peak Loadings
A description of provisions to handle unusual peak loadings
The peak loading of the facility is 500 tons per day. When the material at the site approaches
this limit, additional inspectors will be assigned to trucks as they enter the facility. If necessary,
additional equipment will also be brought in from rental agencies or equipment dealers.
13
