Murphy Road, Escalon
Dear Mr, Girardi:
On January 8, 2019 this digester project application was deemed complete. A meeting with
county personnel was held to discuss this project and a memo dated February 22, 2019 was
issued outlining outstanding items that were discussed in the meeting.
We have kept in some phone and email contact during this in-between period pertaining to this
project. I was informing you that the project was going to happen, just that it was being re-
organized- And now we are ready to present the revised digester project.
This letter presents the reconfigured digester system while addressing the items outlined in the
memo issued. A revised project site map is attached as well as updated applications on current
forms.
Project Description
The manure only complete mix digester will now be 2-stages—an oval shaped hydrolyzer [3],
which is a well-mixed covered concrete vessel, and then a covered HDPE double lined lagoon
[4].
Post manure screen separation feed lane flush water, from both Vander Schaaf Dairy#3 (V33)
and Vander Schaaf Dairy 41 (VS1) located just to the north will supply the digester. Water will
be pumped with flowmeters recording via underground pipes between the dairies such that
there is no net import of water to VS1. For VS1 to remain permit independent per the
requirements of the Existing Dairy General Order of the Regional Water Quality Control Board
(RWQCB), this condition needs to be maintained.
VS3 and VS1 separated flush water will be pumped to a processing pit[12] and is located to the
east of the hydrolyzer vessel on the north side of the project area. The adjacent equalization pit
will feed a Livestock Water Recycling (LWR) First Wave system [13] likely to be enclosed to
protect equipment from the elements. This system will remove the remaining manure fines out
of the flush water (conditioned volatile solids- CVS) and will be fed into the digester. The now
nutrient reduced water coming out of the First Wave will be sent to the existing storage ponds of
VS3. The appropriate amount of water will be pumped back to VS1 from VS3 storage for no net
Enginaering,,Surveying■Planning-Environmental-GIS-Construction Services-Hydrogeology-Consulting
Fresno 6 Bakersfield ■ Visalia ■ Clovis o Modesto • Los Banos • Chico • Sacramento
