Site Approval Application No.PA-1800315 January 29,2021
Vender Sohaaf Dalry 03 Page 2 of 4
13773 S.Murphy Rd,Escalon
import of water for VS1. Additional CVS solid manure from "donor" dairies will be trucked in,
diluted with water as needed from the process pit, and fed into this first stage digestion as well.
Redundant receiving stations [15] are provided, however if equipment is down for service or
repair, temporary placement of incoming manure can be located on the concrete truck
turnaround area. A truck scale[10] is provided to monitor the amount of CVS solid manure
incoming to the facility.
Digestate will be pumped via underground pipes from the first stage hydrolyzes to the second
stage lagoon where it will continue digestion in the covered lagoon.
At digestion completion, the digestate will be pumped from an outlet pit[14] into a LWR plant
system [51, to the east of the covered lagoon. This equipment area is likely to be enclosed to
protect equipment from the elements. This Plant system in its first stage will remove the fine
particle solids from the digestate as the First Wave does but then continues into a second stage
where the filtration will result in clean water(drinking water level) and concentrated liquid
nutrients. The clean water will be distributed to VS3 and VS1 existing storage ponds, while the
fine particle solids and concentrated liquid nutrients will be sent off site as soil
amend m entlferti I ize r.
This is outlined further in the application into the Dairy Digester General Order with the
RWQCB, but the general outcome of manure handling is that water returning from the LWR
First Wave to VS3 and VS1 storage ponds contains roughly half of the nutrients of normal dairy
operations. The harvested manure fines going through digestion are thea post digestion
removed by the LWR Plant from water and concentrated into solid and liquid nutrients to be sold
as fertilizers.
At the south end of the project area are the VS3's collection pit[10], flush pit[9], manure screen
separation [3], bedding drying [7], and manure storage area. The dairy's existing manure
separation is insufficient to the new operation and the flush system will be pumped from the
flush pit instead of a storage lagoon. So, the collection pit, flush pit, flush piping, and manure
separation/drying are being installed to align with the digester project. Solid manure coming off
the manure screen separator will be stored in the location identified on the site map. This
separated solid manure is no different pre-project to post-project and will be handled under the
guidance of the RWQCB General Order.
Existing structures not needed will be demolished and removed. Currently this includes the old
manure separator of approximately 400 ft2 of area and the concrete basin area of approximately
30,000 ft' at the south end of the project area. Some of the existing flat concrete will continue to
be used in the manure drying area.
Biogas generated by both stages of digestion will be sent to a gas upgrader system to clean the
gas to Renewable Natural Gas (RNG)to be trucked off site. This gas equipment area [0] is
shown on the site map. A Regenerative Thermo Oxidizer is part of this equipment and will have
a 20-inch exhaust stack of 30 ft above ground. An emergency flare[17]will an 8-inch exhaust
stack 20 ft above ground is provided as an emergency backup if this equipment needs
maintenance.
Power for the digester site will be generated by 3 natural gas fired gensets in separate enclosed
containers [11]. These engines are needed to heat both digester stages through a heat
exchanger. They will be powered by natural gas which will be trucked into the site.
