Thornton Rd, Lodi
APN 055-150-26, SR0083045
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed the Soil Suitability/Nitrate
Loading (SSNL) Study, dated December 15, 2020 and submitted on December 18, 2020 and its addendum
dated January 18, 2021 for the above noted location, and has the following comments for your consideration.
The SSNL was prepared to determine the suitability of the above noted parcel for onsite wastewater treatment
system (OWTS) usage and the potential long-term impact of nitrate to groundwater from the proposed tenant
improvement to existing gas station.
Based on the information provided, the EHD can make the following findings:
a) According to the SSNL, the estimated nitrate loading from existing and proposed OWTS usage is
21.92 mg/L as nitrate-nitrogen and the maximum contaminant level of 10 mg/L-N. EHD will require the
mitigation of nitrate-nitrogen through an engineered Onsite Wastewater Treatment System.
b) Percolation test conducted on November 24, 2020 yield percolation rate of 11.36 minutes per inch. At
this rate, an 8' of soil separation is required between bottom of dispersal field and ground water. Per
study, the groundwater at site is 10' below ground surface.
c) A Registered Civil Engineer shall submit complete engineering design plan to EHD for approval prior
to issuance of building permit. Fee will be based on the current fee schedule at time of payment.
If you have any questions please contact Naseem Ahmed, Senior Registered Environmental Health
Specialist, at nahmed@sjgov.org or (209) 616-3018.
Muniappa Naidu, REHS
Assistant Director
c: Mike Smith Engineering &AdvancedGeo Environmental
1868 E.
