The
Air SWAT wells, designated P-1 through P-6, were installed in native soils outside the landfill
perimeter, to a depth of approximately 8 ft below ground surface. Air SWAT monitoring well
locations are shown on the attached site plan. A sketch prepared by EMCON showing typical
Air SWAT monitoring well construction details is also attached.
Under a separate contract, SCS was retained by the San Joaquin County Department of
Public Works (County) to design and install a network of new subsurface LFG monitoring
wells, per current state and federal regulations. These new monitoring wells will replace the
Air SWAT wells. SCS was subsequently retained to properly abandon the Air SWAT wells.
SCS's scope of work for this engagement is outlined in our December 5, 1994, proposal to
your office and included preparation of a permit application, oversight of Air SWAT well
abandonment activities, and preparation of this letter report.
SWAT Well Locations
County DPW crews were responsible for marking the locations of the Air SWAT monitoring
wells. Note that well P-5 could not be located. This SWAT well was installed near the
existing perimeter road and is believed to have been destroyed as a result of normal landfill
operations.
V72
©
5c;
rn
C=
%.n
m
Mr. Gabe Karam
San Joaquin County
m
Department of Public Works
o
4?
1810 East Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, California 95201
C/)
Subject: Air SWAT Landfill Gas Monitoring Well Abandonment, Corral Hollow Landfill
Dear Gabe:
This letter documents SCS Engineers (SCS) activities related to abandonment of former
landfill gas (LFG) monitoring wells at the subject site.
BACKGROUND
In 1988, a network of six LFG monitoring wells were installed at the site be EMCON
Associates as part of the Air Quality Solid Waste Assessment Test (Air SWAT) program.
