1.4 Reason for Installing Ground Water Monitoring Well
The current existing wells (MW -5, SB -1, MW -4) that monitor the shallow aquifer do not
represent gradient of the aquifer adequately. Per the request of the California
Regional Water Quality Control Board, the County will attempt to install two new wells
into the shallow aquifer (Figure 2).
1.5 Well Location
The locations of the new ground water monitoring wells are tentative. At both of the
Northern and Southern section property boundary of the landfill, the new groundwater
wells will be installed at the maximum westward extent of the shallow aquifer
(Figure 2). To determine the maximum extent of the shallow aquifer, temporary
exploratory borings (HP's) will be drilled. Once the extent of the shallow aquifer is
determined with the HP's, the new ground water wells will be drilled and installed
accordingly. If no groundwater is encountered far west, then the groundwater wells
will not be installed.
The number and location of the HP's are tentative and may change per the field
results. Presently, it is estimated that five HP's will be drilled for the installation of the
two wells. Extra HP's than originally estimated will not be drilled without approved
drilling permits from San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD). All
drilling work will be done per the drilling permits from EHD.
Solid Waste Division will obtain all necessary drilling permits to install the two
groundwater monitoring wells and drill temporary borings from EHD. Solid Waste
Division will notify EHD Unit 6 at least two working days in advance for an inspection.
The wells and temporary borings will be drilled and completed by a licensed
contractor. The contractor will be required to comply with the work plan and to
construct the well per the construction drawings and specifications
The location of the new wells and the temporary exploratory borings are away from
refuse limit; the work does not include excavation of refuse or contact with refuse.
Drilling mud or liquids will not be used during drilling. All drilling equipments will be
clean. The contractor will be required to clean all unclean equipments off-site.
Spoils will be dispersed around the drilled boring. All construction debris will be
removed from the site by the drilling contractor.
Work Plan —Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation 4 San Joaquin County
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill Public Works/Solid Waste
