Monitoring was performed in accordance with the
monitoring program included with the Waste Discharge Requirements (WDRs) approved by the
Regional Water Quality Control Board for this site. Concentrations of parameters in all wells were
within established concentration limits.
Groundwater conditions at the landfill are similar to last quarter. Eight VOCs were reported in
well MW -5 (the impacted well), three of which were at "trace" concentration and none above
7 ppb.
Some of the same VOCs found at MW -8 were also found at MW -5, but at lower concentrations.
This distinct concentration gradient indicates that the origin of LFG impact is the refuse at the
northern corner of the landfill where the influence of the LFG system is minimal, and not from the
landfill in general. This significant finding allows us to focus on increasing LFG collection in that
area. The County has tentatively scheduled the installation of three or four additional LFG wells
on November 10, 2008.
No VOCs were reported at shallow aquifer wells SB -1 or MW -4, or at any deep aquifer well.
TO -14 analyses of soil gas are included, along with concentrations of major gasses (02, CO2,
CH4, and N2) per your request.
No general water quality parameters were exceeded in wells MW -6, MW -7 and MW -8 this
quarter. The Groundwater parameters Bicarbonate Alkalinity and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
were exceeded in MW -4 this quarter. Groundwater parameters Alkalinity as CaCO3, and
Bicarbonate Alkalinity were exceeded in MW -5. Based on the review of the data, there does not
seem to be not consistent evidence of worsening water quality at the landfill.
