Biological infection <br />2. Household hazardous waste <br />Unidentified drums may be present in the refuse. If drums are uncovered <br />during excavation, the area will be cordoned off and CIWMB and EHD <br />officers notified. The area shall be flagged and excluded from the work <br />zone until the drum can be characterized. At no time shall workers attempt <br />to remove or handle any such item. <br />3.2 Safety Procedures <br />A. OSHA safety rules and regulations will be followed fully and completely during this <br />project. Hard hats, safety glasses and safety vests will be required to be worn by <br />personnel who are working near the construction area and operating heavy <br />equipment. <br />B. Workers will not break the plane of a drilling location with mouth or nostrils unless <br />the safety of the excavation is first monitored to verify that the environment meets <br />OSHA requirements for oxygen and combustible gas. Such monitoring will be with <br />portable electronic test equipment such as Lantec GEM or equivalent. <br />C. All personnel will be advised to avoid contact with refuse and use protective gloves <br />to handle any refuse. Materials encountered during drilling will be characterized <br />by inspection above original grade. <br />D. Work within ten feet of the shell oil pipeline will be done in the presence of Shell <br />Oil Pipeline representatives. <br />E. Workers will not perform work that involves sources of combustion (such as <br />welding equipment) or any other work that generates temperatures that could <br />ignite methane.
