The Discharger is performing certain construction activities to comply
with Cleanup and Abatement Order No. R5-2008-0707, including installation of a reinforced
concrete tank pad. Monitoring well MW-2 is immediately adjacent to the footprint of the tank
pad.
During the Regional Water Board staffs inspection on 25 August 2008, staff noted the well's
proximity to construction activities and to the pad's footprint. Therefore, to protect the integrity
of the boring, staff concurs with the Discharger's request to abandon properly MW-2.
However, the Discharger must obtain the appropriate county permits, and perform
abandonment according to county requirements and the California Well Standards. In
addition, within 30-days of abandonment, the Discharger must submit documentation that
the well has been properly abandoned.
Staff looks forward to working with the Discharger on this facility.
