9505 North West Lane, Stockton, California F93808.01 <br />January 3, 2005 Page 3 <br />Soil descriptions will be logged on a field boring log consistent with the specifications of the Unified <br />Soil Classification System (USCS). Soil samples will be field screened for evidence of volatile <br />organic chemicals (VOCs) and/or other petroleum constituents. The field screening will consist of; <br />visual observation for staining or free fluids, unusual odor, and head space analysis using a photo- <br />ionization detector (PD). The procedure for performing head space analysis are described in the <br />attached SOPs. <br />Soil samples will be collected in stainless steel sampling sleeves and covered on each end with teflon <br />sheets and plastic end caps. The samples will be stored in an ice chest cooled to 4 degrees centigrade <br />using blue ice. The samples will be delivered under chain-of-custody to Twining's state certified <br />laboratory for analysis. <br />Sample handling procedures are summarized in our SOPs. The analytical results for soil samples <br />collected from these soil borings may provide data on the existence and concentrations of <br />constituents of concern in sub-surface soil as defined in the Laboratory Testing Program section <br />below. This data will be evaluated to determine if further assessment is necessary. <br />After completion of the soil sampling, the soil boring will be backfilled with bentonite pellets and <br />hydrated. Drill cuttings from the boring and rinseate from the decontamination of drill tools will be <br />sealed in a United States Department of Transportation (DOT) approved 55-gallon drums and <br />labeled. The report for this sampling and analysis will include a recommended method and time <br />frame for disposal of the cuttings and rinseate based on soil sample analytical results. Disposal of <br />the drill cuttings will be the responsibility of the client. Drill cuttings will be stored in an area not <br />accessible to the public. <br />Laboratory Testing Program: The four surface samples and two of the samples collected at <br />deeper depths will be analyzed in the laboratory for potential constituents of concern. Since the <br />source of the fill material is unknown the samples will be analyzed for the following potential <br />constituents of concern: CAM 17 metals using United States Environmental Protection Agency (US <br />EPA) Method 6010B and 7471, Chromium VI using US EPA Method 7199, Cyanide using US EPA <br />Method 335.2, Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) using US EPA Method 8310, <br />Semivolatile Organic Compounds (SVOCs) using US EPA Method 8270, Polychlorinated biphenyls <br />(PCBs) using US EPA Method 8082, Total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) - carbon chain speciation <br />using US EPA Method 8015, Organochlorine pesticides using US EPA Method 8081A, and <br />Organophospherous pesticides using US EPA Method 8141A. In addition, the two surface samples <br />collected from the native material will be analyzed for CAM 17 metals for comparison of metal <br />concentrations. <br />Twining is a California Department of Health Services certified hazardous waste laboratory <br />(Certificate No. 1371) for the analyses outlined herein. A description of laboratory quality <br />assurance/quality control procedures proposed for the analyses are described in the SOPs presented <br />in Appendix A.
