In addition, if any unusual strong odors are noted, work will
be temporarily discontinued and the source of the odor evaluated. In the event concentrations of
hydrocarbon vapors measured in the breathing zone exceed 10 parts per million (the threshold limit
value for benzene), work will be suspended and the site evacuated until engineering controls can be
implemented to reduce the hazard. Respiratory equipment will available on-site but will only be
used if high levels of hydrocarbon vapors are detected and it is necessary to secure equipment prior
to evacuating the site.
B-4 Personal Protective Equipment: It is anticipated that the level of personal protection required
for this project will be U.S. EPA Level D. Personal protection will be modified to Level C in the
event it is necessary for emergency evacuation of the site. Personal protective equipment for each
member of the field team will be available on-site and used as may be required by field conditions.
A summary of the personal protective equipment is as follows:
Full or half face respirators equipped with organic vapor cartridges;
Tyvek0 coveralls;
Neoprene rubber gloves;
