We looked it up on the SWIS website this morning and found the same thing. Although the landfill
appears to be mostly glass and from the analyses that I've seen there does not appear to be a water quality issue, I do
note that Advanced GeoEnvironmental did not really define the groundwater gradient at the waste site. If we assume
it is similar to the diesel spill area, the groundwater samples they collected would be at the up gradient and side
gradient edge of the waste. I'd like to see a down gradient sample near the waste area.
We also have a few other questions from our file about the waste stream from Pilkington, chemicals used in their
process, disposition of bag dust waste, a sump that DHS recommended removing, and others. I am going to have Ann
Palmer compile a list of our questions, and try to coordinate with Cal Recycle and SJCEHD to get all the issues on the
table so that we can get this put to rest. I'd like to have a list compiled by the end of the week.
Regarding a site visit next week, I would like to visit the site. However,we are in the midst of a "changing of the guard"
here and we also have some "fires" burning, so I cannot commit to a site visit at this time. I'll know more by the end of
the week.
Let me get a list together, and we can proceed from there.
From: Dana Parry [mailto:dana re noldsandbrown.com]
Sent: Monday, June 22, 2015 1:38 PM
To: Djuth, Gera ld@Waterboa rds
Cc: William Little
Subject: Pilkington Facility, Lathrop, CA
Hello Gerald:
As a follow up to our call on Friday, attached please find the CIWMB's SWIS form indicating that the site was
closed in 1986.As we discussed,we performed significant investigative work at the direction of the SJCEHD's LEA.Cal
Recycle has asked us to complete additional work.As we discussed, it is our goal to recycle this land and make it
available for industrial development. I am very desirous of trying to coordinate this work so as to manage our resources
as best we can, come up with a plan that works for everyone and avoid duplicative work if possible. We are available the
week before July 4 at your convenience to visit the facility and, in addition to discussing recycling the former closed land
fill area, discuss our plan for actively remediating the diesel spill issue. Please let us know your availability. Thanks much,
Dana
40
Dana G.
