Site Description <br /> The Las Vinas Dehydrator Station houses equipment and materials for removing <br /> moisture and particulates from, and adding odorant to, natural gas in PG&E's <br /> transmission system. The facility occupies a 1/2 acre site which is owned by <br /> PG&E. The dehydrator station is unstaffed and has been in operation since <br /> 1942. Buildings, structures and equipment located at the Las Vinas station are <br /> identified on the attached facility layout map. The station yard has a gravel <br /> surface. The yard contains buried and aboveground high pressure natural gas <br /> piping and equipment. The entire yard is surrounded by a 6-foot high, chain-link <br /> fence topped with barbed wire. There are two drive through gates to the facility. <br /> Background <br /> In the past, aboveground gas piping was coated with lead-based paints to <br /> prevent corrosion. Routinely, the piping was sandblasted in preparation for <br /> coating replacement. The material used was Green Diamond Abrasive, a <br /> commonly used and commercially available abrasive. The MSDS for the Green <br /> Diamond product is attached. The affected area is approximately 50 ft. by 25 ft. <br /> with most of the sandblast residue (approximately 15 yards total) visible <br /> underneath the above ground piping. <br /> Summary of Testing <br /> Samples were collected and analyzed for lead in residue. Three samples were <br /> collected from 5 locations from the visible residue. The three samples were <br /> composited by the laboratory (Chromalab, Inc.) for STLC. Results indicated that <br /> lead was present in the sample extract at 63 mg/L. The surface gravel and <br /> sandblast residue from the site will be scraped off, composite sampled, and <br /> disposed of properly to a Class I or Class II landfill depending on composite <br /> sample results. The remaining surface soils will be sampled to confirm that <br /> cleanup objectives have been attained. <br /> Remediation and Confirmation Sampling <br /> Phase I: <br /> An area of 1250 sq. ft (50'x25') and depth of 6 inches will be removed around the <br /> sandblasted piping, any remaining sandblast areas onsite will be scraped until <br /> the sandblast residue is no longer visible. Five confirmation samples will be <br /> collected from underneath the piping when visual removal of the sandblast ��uc/� •'� <br /> residue is completed. The scraped sandblasting residue will be placed in a 20 <br /> cubic yard bin, and composite sampled to evaluate proper disposal options. <br /> Appropriate wet methods (dust control) will be utilized during the sandblast <br /> residue removal process to minimize potential airborne dust particles. <br />
