In addition, area monitoring,
replacement of body fluids, and establishment of a work-rest regimen will help to
protect against the hazards of heat stress.
Heat Stress Control Measures
The work-rest regimen will be set by use of WBGT (wet bulb globe thermometer
readings). In addition, the following control measures will be used when heat
stress potential exists:
Adequate liquids must be provided. Workers must replace lost body fluids from
sweating. At a minimum 4-6 ounces of fluid should be taken before starting work
and minimum 4-6 ounces routinely during rest breaks. Workers must be
encouraged to drink more than the amount required to satisfy thirst. Salt tablets should not be
taken unless prescribed by a physician since normal diet should provide
adequate salt intake
Workers will be trained in the importance of adequate rest, acclimatization, and
proper diet to aid in the prevention of heat stress.
Personnel Hygiene:
Workers will be required to wash and hands and face before taking rest or meal
breaks.
Worker acknowledgment of Hazard Communication plan:
Name (Print) Name (signature)
