Work Plan—Soil Boring Installation Page 3
Malott's Honda Yamaha
Project 328.2
August 27, 2001
Custody protocol. Chain of Custody (CofC) forms are documents used to track the handling
of samples. All dates, times, persons and companies handling the samples were listed from
the time the sample was collected to its ultimate disposal.
All sampling equipment will be thoroughly steam cleaned before and between uses. No soil
cuttings will be generated during the Geo-Probe drilling process.
If no field evidence is found to suggest contamination is present, there will be no initial
laboratory analysis of the soil samples. They will be held pending results of the groundwater
analysis (see below).
2.1.3 Groundwater Sample Collection & Analysis
Groundwater samples will be collected using the Geo-Probe's groundwater sampling device.
This consists of a four-foot long hollow rod fitted with a drive point, which is attached to the
end of the Geo-Probe stem. This rod is driven four feet into groundwater and retracted to
expose the stainless steel screen inside of the device.
Groundwater samples will be obtained by oscillating a clean dedicated section of Teflon
tubing inserted inside of the hollow stem of the Geo-Probe. This causes groundwater to rise
to the surface. Samples will be collected in 1-liter amber glass bottles and 40-mm VOA
vials. Each sample container will then be labeled and placed into an ice chest chilled to 4°C
to await transport to the laboratory under chain of custody protocol.
It is anticipated that three groundwater samples submitted for analysis as follows:
• Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TEPH) by EPA method 8015(m)/3510
(water)
• Total gasoline range Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH-G) by EPA method
8015(m)/5030
• Total Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylene by EPA method 602
Compound TPH TEPH BTEX
Detection Limit 50 50 0.3
Units L L L
2937 Veneman Avenue, Suite B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
