EARTHCON
2.2 Tanks
The hazardous waste tank system at the Site includes the following:
• Four— 330 gallon, horizontal cylindrical cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) single walled tanks
used for used oil (01 through 04)
• Four — 220 gallon, horizontal cylindrical XLPE single walled tanks used for waste antifreeze
(Al through A4)
• One — 385 gallon, vertical cylindrical high density polyethylene (HDPE) double walled tank
used for used oil (Customer Drop-off)
Details regarding the hazardous waste tank system are provided in Table 1 and Figure 3. Site
photographs, including images of the tanks, are provided in Appendix A.
2.2.1 Secondary Containment
The hazardous waste tank systems for the used oil and waste antifreeze are located within XLPE
secondary containment within the Drain Building (see Figures 2 and 3). Additionally, the secondary
contained tanks are located within the concrete paved, roofed Drain Building, which is comprised of
2 walls and is open to the west and east sides. The Drain Building floor is constructed of concrete
and the west and east entrances are each bordered with a drainage swale. The concrete floor is
relatively flat and provides secondary containment for the piping that extends from the drain racks to
the secondary containment for the tanks. Minor drips and spills that occur during removal of the
fluids from the vehicles are controlled with absorbent that is drummed and disposed after use.
Dimensions and the associated calculations of the secondary containment capacities are provided
in Appendix B. The capacities were calculated by determining the interior volume of each
secondary containment unit and ensuring that this volume was greater than the volume of the
largest tank plus the maximum volume of the associated piping. When applicable, the volume of the
other tanks within the associated containment was subtracted from the containment capacity to
account for the displaced volume they represent. Each containment tank was found to have excess
capacity (see Appendix B). The interior of the containments was relatively clear of trash and debris.
The bottom of the containments did not show evidence of damage or leaks.
Secondary containment calculations are provided in Appendix B and manufacturer specifications
are provided in Appendix C.
Hazardous Waste Tank Assessment Stockton, CA
Schnitzer Steel — Pick -n -Pull 3 Project No. 04.20160002
