L & M OPERABLE UNIT-THIRD QUARTER 2014 SITE STATUS, REMEDIAL SUMMARY,
AND GROUNDWATER MONITORING REPORT
Status of Remediation Activities
October 31, 2014
7 ft. skid. The holding tank is additionally coupled to two 55-gallon carbon drums
connected in series. The product holding tank is supplied by a 5 hp Powerex model
SES0508HP 4-2 rotary scroll air compressor and a 13 gallon receiving tank. The
compressor is tied to a 2-inch SPG2 AutoGenieTM skimmer bladder pump installed in
MW-50 and capable of removing up to 160 gallons of SPH per day. Compressed air is
supplied to the pump via independent piping and regulated by a QED Environmental
Systems pressure regulator mounted inside the remediation enclosure. In addition to
the active skimmer in MW-50, four passive skimmers are installed in wells MW-43, MW-47,
MW-48, and MW-49.
A Notice of Permit Exemption was obtained from the SJVAPCD on January 16, 2013.
The product recovery system was started on September 11, 2013. A system startup
report detailing the startup, operation and maintenance, and recovery status of the
free product removal system was submitted on February 13, 2014.
3.4.2 Product Recovery Remediation Systems Operational Data
During 3Q14 (June 30, 2014 through September 30, 2014) the system was 100%
operational removing approximately 8.8 gallons of SPH from the subsurface. Since
startup the product recovery remediation system has removed approximately 615
gallons of SPH from the subsurface. Product removal skimmer system operational data
can be found in Table 24.
During evaluation of the third quarter 2014 product recovery remediation system data,
Stantec noticed an error in the calculation than was used to estimate the cumulative
amount of product recovered by the product recovery system that had been
unaddressed in previous quarterly reports. The issue has been addressed and is
reflected in the quantity reported above and has been adjusted in Table 24.
3.5 CONCLUSIONS
All onsite remediation systems (DPE, L&M OU SVE, and ASVE) are currently shutdown.
On May 30, 2014, Sfantec submitted a proposal to the RWQCB-CVR to remove the
existing remediation equipment, while leaving system piping, manifolds, and other
infrastructure intact to allow for response with an alternate remediation unit if
necessary. Removal of the remediation equipment is currently pending approval from
the RWQCB-CVR. The offsite skimmer system will remain operational during 4Q14.
5ta ntec 3.4
