It is anticipated that most of the support facilities will be
located near the southern end of the Site.
2.2.4 Security
Site access will be controlled with barricade tape and notices depending on site-specific
conditions. Entrance into work area will be restricted to specific points that will be
controlled and monitored by project personnel. Only project personnel, subcontractor
personnel and authorized visitors with proper identification and health and safety training
will be allowed to access to the Site.
It is anticipated that the various phases of well destruction activity will be completed
according to a daily schedule such that no drilling rigs or open boreholes will be left
overnight in area accessible to the general public.
2.3 Well Destruction
The well destruction procedures outlined in the Work Plan will be followed to abandon
each well in place by placing the sealing material directly into the well casing. Prior to
well destruction activities, the interior of the well casing will be first cleared to eliminate
any obstructions, which might interfere with the effective sealing procedures. Because
the integrity of the well seal is unknown each casing will be perforated upward beginning
just above the fill material to the surface. The open will well subsequently be filled a
County approved sealing material.
The sealing material will consist of a neat cement grout. The wells will be filled with a
sufficient volume of cement grout to completely fill the well casing and force grout
through the perforated holes and into the surrounding lithologic formation to form a
barrier to the vertical movement of water. The wells will be filled from the bottom up
using a tremie pipe to prevent dilution of the grout, ovoid bridging, and ensure proper
grout placement.
The well bores will be filled to within five feet below the ground surface. The total
amount of grout used to seal each well will be recorded. For the protection of the seal a
hole 1.5 feet greater in diameter than hole originally drilled hole will be excavated around
the outside of each well casing to a depth of 5 feet below ground surface. The well
casing will be cut off six (6) inches below this excavation and removed. During the
sealing activities, the grout used to fill the well will be allowed to spill over into the
excavation and fill it for a thickness of one (1) foot to form a cap that has a diameter of at
Monitoring Well Destruction Work Plan 5 of 8
DePaoli Property
November 14,2007
