PART 1 GENERAL
1.01 SUMMARY
Section covers the installation of four (4) dual landfill gas (LFG) extraction
wells at Harney Lane Landfill (HLSL), located at 14750 E. Harney Lane,
Lodi, California (Figure 1).
The Contractor shall do all work as shown on the construction drawings and
as specified here-in.
1.02 SITE CONDITIONS
A. General
1. The new LFG wells will be installed in refuse; therefore, work of this
contract includes excavation of refuse or contact with refuse.
2. The drilling locations of the new LFG Extraction wells are near existing
LFG extraction wells and laterals.
3. A high pressure condensate sump air line and a condensate discharge
line are along the header.
4. During drilling, lateral trench excavation, or header connection the
Contractor shall protect existing LFG piping. The Contractor shall be
liable for damage to existing LFG system piping.
B. Refuse
HLSL contains household refuse, demolition debris, tree trimmings, and
miscellaneous refuse. To the best knowledge of the County, hazardous
materials have not been disposed at the site. Unidentified drums may be
present in the refuse at HLSL. If drums are removed during drilling, the
area will be cordoned off and San Joaquin County Environmental Health
(EHD) officers notified. The area shall be flagged and excluded from the
work zone until the drum can be characterized.
C. Landfill Gas (LFG)
When buried in a landfill, refuse and other organic material produces LFG,
which is approximately 50 percent methane by volume and may contain
other contaminants. The lower explosive limit of methane is 5 percent by
volume. The Contractor shall ensure the work area meets all safety
requirements.
Construction Specifications San Joaquin County
Dual LFG Extraction Wells Public Works Department
Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill Page 1 of 13 Solid Waste Division
Revised 11-18-09
